Canoeing with your dog ?
Our tips for a great shared experience.
It’s the weekend or vacation time, you love canoeing, and the weather is beautiful, even hot. You’re looking for an idea to enjoy your favorite activity, get some fresh air, or even cool off with your dog? Then a descent down the Orb River will be perfect for you! Here are our best tips for a fantastic time:
- Is my dog comfortable in the water?
Some dogs are like fish in water, others not so much! We advise you to make sure of this beforehand. If you’ve already gone canoeing with your dog and everyone had a great time, then there’s no hesitation! If not, consider a preliminary outing to a body of water, a lake, or a calm section of the river to test your dog’s comfort and see how well they handle the water. If everything goes smoothly and your dog enjoys swimming, feel free to contact us to book your activity and benefit from our final tips… - Plan the transfer to the start of your descent.
Since our base is located at the end of the routes, a transfer to the starting point will be necessary. This transfer will take place in a minibus or bus. Therefore, you should also ensure that this transfer can occur under good conditions, with other people and possibly other dogs in these vehicles. - During your descent down the Orb river.
We recommend bringing a life jacket for your dog. Although dogs are generally good swimmers, in case of an unexpected capsize, a life jacket will make it easier for your dog to move in the water and be rescued. We do not have life jackets for dogs at our base.Never tie your dog to the canoe.
Plan your dog’s supplies: water, kibble, etc., and make room in your container.
Opt for morning departures to take your time.
